Celebrities are in fact human regardless of how invincible movies make them look. When they are affected by tough accidents, some roll up their boots while others keep striving. Here are some celebrities who quit because of accidents.
Gene Hackman
Veteran actor Gene Hackman, who was 82 in 2012 when he had a serious accident. The actor was riding his bike in Florida when he was hit by a car. A woman was behind the wheel of the car and mistakenly hit the actor on the road. Hackman was not wearing any helmet at the time he was hit and had to be transported to the hospital to receive treatment. For accidents like this, you can get compensation for your truck accident in Chicago. It isn’t clear if the actor sued for compensation in this case. Sadly, this led to his retirement from acting.
Brandon Lee
Actor Brandon Lee was just 28 when he had an accident that took him out of the industry. It was 1993 and Lee was on set of The Crow. The scene required a gunshot and was supposed to involve blank bullets for the right effects. This was not done, unfortunately, and Lee was shot in the abdomen.
The actor died as a result of this gunshot wound despite all efforts to save him. His death came as a shock to fans considering the fact that his father, Bruce Lee, died a few years ago while filming.
Jackie Coogan
Child actor Jackie Coogan was only six years old when he came into the limelight. He was one of the most famous children in the world just by starring in silent films. Coogan starred in the 1921 film by Charlie Chaplin called The Kid.
While the actor did not have an accident himself, his father’s ghastly accident led him to quit acting for a while. He would later lose the bulk of his net worth due to mismanagement from his mother and stepfather.
Christopher Reeve
Everyone’s favorite Superman lost his career after a freak accident in 1995. Reeve was riding a horse, which he had done several times before. This time, he had no idea it would be his last. He fell off the horse and had a cervical spinal injury. This left him paralyzed from the neck down, and he even needed a respirator to breathe.
Needless to say, this was the end of his acting career. He struggled to regain his health and even underwent an experimental treatment to breathe without a respirator. This was only a temporary fix. The actor would die in 2004.
Tippi Hedren
This actress is mostly known for her role in The Birds. This same role would cause her to suffer from serious injuries. In one scene which was to involve mechanical birds, the director opted for live birds. The birds attacked her several times and injured her. Hedren had to be hospitalized and treated for her injuries. She also suffered from psychological issues from the attack.
Hedren became estranged from the director, and this affected her career in Hollywood. She was unable to secure roles, inadvertently ending her career.
