3 Things To Consider Before Getting Your HVAC System Serviced

There’s nothing worse than needing your HVAC system to work and keep your home comfortable and noticing that it’s not running as it should be. But because there are so many moving parts and components that make up a HVAC system, there could be all kinds of reasons why things might not be working correctly. So before you call someone in to come check things out only to make a very minimal adjustment that you could have done on your own, here are three things to consider trying before getting your HVAC system serviced.

Check Out Your Filters

While most people know that you need to change out your HVAC filters on a regular basis, this is something that many people don’t think to do until there’s a problem with their system. So before you do anything else, consider going to where your filter is and checking to see if it’s dirty and clogged up.

If your HVAC system isn’t able to push clean air through the filter, it’s going to have to work extra hard in order to try to get the same airflow that it normally does. This can put a lot of extra stress on your system and cause it to not work as it should. Knowing this, try replacing the air filter and seeing if this fixes the problems you’re having.

Look For Leaks

Something else that could be causing your HVAC system not to function as you want it to could be that you’re dealing with leaks throughout your house that can let the air from outside come into your space and counteract all of the work that your HVAC system is doing.

To determine if this is the case, try walking through your home to see if you can feel any air coming in from around the doors and windows. HVAC units are made to work within the exact specifications of the heat loads calculated for each house. So if there’s a lot of air coming in and out of the house, try sealing up those spaces so there is less loss here.

Consider Its Lifespan

Unfortunately, a HVAC system isn’t meant to last for the entirety of your life or for the whole time someone is living in the house. They can fail and need replacing if they get too old and aren’t able to function as they should anymore.

In most cases, this happens around 15 to 25 years after the system has been installed. So if you know that you’re coming up to this time, you might need to consider just getting the system replaced as opposed to having technician after technician come into your home to try to make repairs that really won’t address the bigger issues.

If you think that your HVAC system needs to be serviced, consider trying the above-mentioned things first to save yourself some trouble.
